Natural Cuttlebone for Birds — 2-Pack with Cage Holder
Product description
Premium natural cuttlebone: These are the internal shells from cuttlefish, processed by sun-drying to preserve the material. Composed chiefly of calcium carbonate (the raw shell is largely mineral), they provide an effective, natural source of calcium and other trace elements often recommended by veterinarians.
Appearance and odor: Expect an unmistakable fishy scent and occasional yellow-tinted spots or flaking along edges. Because the product is purely the dried shell material with no additives, the pieces are delicate and prone to cracking or chipping in transit. Any small fragments are still edible and often easier for tiny beaks to nibble.
What’s included: Each purchase contains two sun-dried cuttlebone pieces plus a simple metal clamp-style holder for attaching a piece to a cage. The clamp is intended for quick installation and keeps the cuttlebone accessible for perching birds. Packaging includes foam padding to reduce damage during shipping, though tips can still break.
How it’s used: Place the cuttlebone in the holder and attach it to cage bars so birds can access it while perched. Birds use cuttlebone for beak maintenance, grinding and ingesting calcium for bone development and blood-clotting support. Beyond birds, these shells are commonly offered to small pets such as snails, hermit crabs, reptiles, shrimp and rodents that benefit from extra calcium.
Notes on size and variability: Because these are natural products, individual pieces will vary in length, thickness and hardness — some buyers receive thicker, substantial pieces while others find slimmer or shorter ones. If a stronger mounting solution or a different holder is required, consider swapping the included clamp for a gentler or more secure option. Contact customer support if you receive a badly damaged item.
Pros
- High natural calcium content
- Two cuttlebone pieces plus clamp
- Works for many bird species and small pets
Cons
- Very fragile; may arrive chipped
- Distinct fishy odor
- Basic metal holder can be unsuitable for tiny feet
VerdictA straightforward, natural calcium supplement for caged birds and other small animals. The cuttlebone material is real and sun-dried, so you get a fishy aroma, pale discoloration and naturally brittle edges — all signs of authenticity. Comes as two pieces and a basic metal clamp for mounting. Most birds accept and use them eagerly, though some buyers find variation in size and dislike the metal fa

Disappointed with this batch
This order contained skinny, thin pieces that the metal holder could not secure. Very disappointed; would've returned if I'd opened them right away.

Smaller than pictured
They were a bit smaller than I expected, but fine for snails and should last a long time.

Not usable with supplied clamp
Totally not worth it for me — the cuttlebone was tiny and the little metal fastener was too big and flimsy to attach.

Too small for the cost
Poor value — pieces are smaller than expected for the money.

Perfect for tiny birds
Smaller than I expected, but ideal for parakeets and finches.

Big, clean pieces but pricey
I hesitated after reading reviews but these arrived large, very clean and well packaged. They work great, though I think the price is a bit high, so I rated four stars.

Birds love them, but holder is dated
My parakeets go crazy for these — very white and sturdier than others I've tried, and they last. You can hear them gnawing from another room. My only gripe is the included metal clamp: it can pinch tiny feet and feels like an old-fashioned design.
