BOSS Dr. Beat DB-30 Portable Metronome — Compact Practice Tool
Product description
What’s included: the DB-30 handheld metronome unit and basic documentation for operation. The unit is designed to be taken anywhere and slips easily into a gig bag or pocket.
Construction and size: the metronome is built with a hard-wearing plastic shell and a compact footprint so it’s lightweight and rugged enough for regular practice. It features a clear LCD, an LED indicator and a back clip for attaching to clothing or gear.
How it’s used: set tempo and time signature, choose from a variety of preset rhythmic patterns and accents, and monitor the beat visually via the flashing LED and on-screen pendulum. A dedicated phone/headphone jack allows private listening, while a rotary volume control and simple buttons make adjustments quick. The unit also supports odd meters and includes an auto power-off to preserve batteries.
Pros
- Compact, sturdy design for travel
- Visual and audible beat indicators
- Supports odd meters and play‑along patterns
Cons
- Single tick tone with limited voice options
- Battery life can be short under heavy use
- Menu navigation not as quick as higher‑end models
VerdictSmall but capable — the DB-30 delivers a wide range of rhythms and useful practice aids in a compact, durable housing. Good for beginners through intermediate players who want portability, visual beat cues, and a headphone jack. Battery life varies with use, but overall it’s an excellent, budget-friendly companion.

Feature-packed pocket metronome
Best small metronome I’ve owned. Rich feature set and very handy — only complaint is it burns through batteries faster than I’d like.

Performs as expected
Works well. Smaller than I imagined.

Very functional
Nice metronome. Auto power-off after an hour is useful. You can set many different rhythms. If it suddenly locks at 120 bpm you likely need a fresh battery, as the manual notes.

Positive experience
Good product.

Battery life is decent enough
I worried about battery longevity from other reviews. After daily use the first battery lasted about two and a half months; it began acting oddly until I replaced it. Aside from that, size, simplicity and build quality are very satisfying.

Perfect for odd-meter training
Fantastic for practicing 5/4, 7/8 and 9/8. I became completely hooked after buying it — it’s changed my practice routine.

Sergei Cavic 5/5
Durable and dependable
Owned the previous model for over a decade of daily use. Sturdy and technically solid—expect reliable performance for years.

All the functions I need
Has every feature I use. I recommend it.

Kyrie Robinson 5/5
Excellent value for everyday use
Offers the essentials—volume control and headphone output—at a great price. Menu takes a bit more fiddling than pricier models and you can’t swap tick sounds, but it’s ideal for a compact metronome and great for learners.

My go-to metronome now
More convenient than the bulky mechanical units I tried. Sound is soft and adjustable so it won’t disturb others, and it offers multiple rhythms, visual beat lights and a small footprint that I can carry everywhere.

Solid and reliable for any tempo
Not flashy, but it does everything you need: any tempo, clear BPM adjustments, volume control and handy pause buttons. Simple and effective—would recommend.

Excellent product
Excellent device. Arrived on time and met expectations.

Good unit, but not ideal with headphones
Adjusting tempo and meters is simple, and the visual display is helpful. The single chirp tone can be shrill and retro-sounding through headphones, which some may find irritating though usable for practice.
